Who we are:
The Gibson County Preservation Initiative exists to preserve, protect, and promote the historic places, landscapes, and cultural legacy of Gibson County, Indiana. Operating under Downtown Princeton, Inc., the Council provides education, resources, and guidance to property owners, community organizations, and local leaders to support the thoughtful stewardship of historic structures, sites and stories.
Through collaboration, advocacy, and accessible tools, the Council works to ensure that Gibson County's heritage remains a living, usable asset- supporting economic vitality, community identity, and intergenerational connection.
What's the difference between Downtown Princeton, Inc. and Gibson County Preservation Initiative?
Downtown Princeton, Inc. and the Gibson County Preservation Initiative both play vital roles in strengthening the community, each with a distinct but complementary focus. Downtown Princeton, Inc. is dedicated to the revitalization of the downtown district, supporting small businesses, enhancing the appearance of our district(s), and hosting events that bring energy and economic activity to the area. Meanwhile, the Gibson County Preservation Initiative focuses on protecting and promoting the county’s historical and cultural resources, ensuring that important sites, stories, and traditions are preserved for future generations.
While their missions differ, the two organizations work closely together to create a balance between progress and preservation. By collaborating on projects, sharing resources, and aligning efforts, they help ensure that downtown development respects the area’s historic character while also keeping it vibrant and economically strong. This partnership allows Princeton and Gibson County to honor their past while building a sustainable future.
